The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.

wow.
way to walk and talk like christ.if this was a muslim leader, it would be shut down immediately for inciting terrorism. but because this is a white, baptist preacher? the best you get is his being brought in for questioning, followed by him, i am quite sure, claiming to be suffering for the gospel.
there are some batshit crazy ’christians’ out there.
wow. I should be able to say that I’m surprised, but I’m not. at least 3 people I work with have said they wished someone would kill the president.
this is why I have such a huge problem with “organized” religion. it’s like last week, I was talking to my grandmother who raised me, a devout christian, and she was telling me how it was “unmanly and against god” for my 5 year old son to have long hair. that is was against the bible. well, I just lost it. I actually had the “i don’t believe in the bible” conversation with her and I think I may have given her a heart attack. it got worse, cause she asked me about homosexuality as well. I’ve never discussed my views with her because I knew she could never understand my point of view. all she sees is the bible and black and white. like this “pastor”.
when people grab on to something like this, they, for whatever reason, just cannot let it go. this pastor is saying he wants the president dead because he is supportive of abortion rights, that he’s killing the innocent…well what the hell did W do by bombing the middle east? does that not count?
it’s too early in the morning for me to already be pissed off.
i apologise, dearie. i should perhaps save such inflamatory videos for after 6pm.
i have to make the obligatory, “we’re not all like that” post though. especially because westernized American christianity, is something completely different to westernized British christianity.
also. contrary to popular belief, ‘bible’ and ‘black and white’ are kind of mutually exclusive. i believe for all religion and religious teaching, it is not so much a set of beliefs, but a response to the revelation of those teachings. which is why you can get hundreds of different interpretations from one verse alone.
there are those of us out there who would whole heartedly advocate your sons long hair, homosexuality, homosexual marriages, and still believe in the person of Jesus and what he teaches in the bible.
knowing you and your beliefs about life, i would say you are doing pretty well at living what Jesus teaches, whether you believe in him or not ;)

We are not called to love our enemies in order to make them friends. We are called to act out love for them because at the cross it has been effectively proclaimed that from all eternity they were our brothers and sisters. We are not called to make the bread of the world available to the hungry; we are called to restore the true awareness that it was always theirs. We are not called to topple the tyrants, so that it might become true that the proud fall and the haughty are destroyed. It already is true; we are called only to let that truth govern our own choice of whether to be, in turn, tyrants claiming to be benefactors.
